Technical Advancements in Electrical Safety -- Mr. George Spencer, General Partner and CEO of Zlan, Ltd., spoke to The Technical Club of Dallas on Tuesday, November 14th, describing, first, characteristics of electric wiring systems in buildings wherein they lose voltage at points remote from the meter such that a wiring failure at a remote point could start a fire without tripping the circuit breakers which are now being installed and, second, his development of a circuit breaker with a microprocessor is capable of detecting those remote failures before they result in a fire. He also noted that usual procedures in building wiring cause conditions which generate heat even without electrical shorts. Mr. Spencer while CEO of Zlan, Ltd. is also (presently) a Senior Engineer at SGS Thomson Corporation. ZLAN, Ltd., is an electronics R & D laboratory in Wylie, TX dedicated to providing a Fire Safe electrical environment. Mr. Spencer, inventor of the Zlan DE Circuit Breaker, hopes to sell his patented circuit breaker to an established manufacturer of electrical equipment for a price only slightly higher than breakers on today’s market. He also patented a testing device which can assess the safety of electrical circuits and can pinpoint any deficiencies. These inventions are not on the market yet, but when they are, they should be a major breakthough in electric safety. Return to home page. |
